In New Zealand, an above-ground pool or a spa pool that can hold 400mm or more of water requires a physical barrier to restrict access by unsupervised young children. The barrier must be at least 1.2m high and have no gaps greater than 100mm, with vertical palings and self-latching gates that open away from the pool. The pool area needs to be free of climbable objects like furniture or plants that could be used to bypass the fence. Please ensure that before installing a pool on your property it complies with these regulations.
