The Actik is Petzl's all-rounder: bright enough for a pre-dawn start, light enough that you forget it's on. It throws 450 lumens, weighs 98 g and runs on three AAA batteries, which come in the box. Swap in Petzl's CORE rechargeable battery later and the lamp works that out by itself and gets brighter. This is the past-season model, so you get a proven lamp without paying for the new box.

The mixed beam covers what's at your feet and what's down the track. Red light means you can find your socks at 5am without blinding the whole hut. The reflector glows in the dark so you can find the lamp in the tent, the lock stops it switching on in your pack, and the headband comes off for a wash.
