The tent: KingCamp Holiday IV

A four-person dome, which for two people means space for the bags, the gear and a bit of personal space. There's a porch for boots and wet gear, a 3000mm waterproof fly, and a clear window in the front so you can check the weather without leaving your bag. The inner is 250 x 210cm. Fluorescent pegs and reflective guy ropes mean fewer stubbed toes after dark.

The sleeping bags: KingCamp Oasis 250 x 2

Roomy rectangular bags with 250g/m² hollow fibre fill, comfortable down to about 12°C. That makes them spring, summer and autumn bags, not winter ones. Each one unzips flat into a quilt.

The sleep mats: KingCamp Deluxe 10 x 2

196 x 68cm and 6cm thick, with a built-in pillow and a foot pump in the end, so you blow them up with your foot instead of your lungs. Domes down the sides join the two mats together, so nobody rolls into the gap in the middle.
